Will Renters Insurence Cover Flood/Water Damage?
Hi,
Recently My Apartment In Orlando Was Flooded Completely Due To A Fire On The 12 Floor. I Live On The 10 Floor Directly Below The Apartment Affected. Due To The File And The Sprinkler System Water Flooded By Sepage Onto My House Damaging My Furniture. Who Should Pay For My Water Damage The Landlord? Will A Renters Policy Cover This Damage?

Please Help!!!!!!!

Flood is excluded under renters insurance. HOWEVER. What you’re describing is NOT flood.

Yes, your renters insurance may pay for damages to YOUR property cause by the fire in the unit upstairs, and the sprinkler system going off.

Your landlord’s policy may cover the damage to the BUILDING from the fire and water.

Your landlord’s policy may NOT cover any damages to your ‘stuff’.

Is Tap Water In Orlando And Central Florida Drinkable?
I Went To Las Vegas To Visit Family, And They Told Us We Cant Drink Their Rap Water, We Have To Buy The Gallons. I Live In Chicago, Where We Are Able To Drink Tap Water.

Orlando water is just fine. In town, most people are on city water–which is purified and mildly chlorinated / fluoride-enhanced from what I understand. Some areas may taste a little funny, depending on the pipes in the house and all, but it’s perfectly safe to drink. I’ve occasionally used a Brita pitcher to skim any funny flavor out in some apartments I lived at.

In rural areas, many people use artesian well water. Filters are in place to make the water safe, but it still may have a mildly sulphur smell (due to the mineral deposits it passes through on the way up from the aquifer). Again, perfectly safe to drink.

I would NOT recommend drinking water out of any lakes or streams. While the spring fed rivers are pretty clean at the source, I just wouldn’t trust the majority of Florida lakes as a safe drinking source without iodine tablets and boiling.

After hurricanes, sometimes boil-water-advisors are issued for areas sustaining damage to water mains. This is uncommon and shouldn’t be an issue if you’re just coming for a short tourist visit.

Don’t forget, a lot of your common bottled waters (such as Zepherhills) originate in Florida. We have good water here! =)

Iphone 3Gs Water Damage Can Be Repaired?
So I’M An *** And Hopped In The Pool With My Iphone 3Gs. Couldn’T Have Been More Than 5 Seconds. I Put It In Rice For A Few Days, And Opened It Up And Let It Dry For A Few Hours. It Started Up And Worked For A Bit, But Now It Just Says I Have To Connect To Itunes. I Do That And It Says It Needs To Be Restored, So I Try Restoring It And It Gives Me An Error Message Saying It Can’T Be Restored. It Also Shuts Off When Taken Off The Charger, So I’M Assuming The Battery Is Shot. Tried Resetting By Holding The Power And Home Button, But Just Goes Back To Telling Me To Connect To Itunes. How Can I Get Past That Error Message Though? Is My Phone Saveable?

Your phone is scrap, sorry. Very few of them survive water damage even if they’re thoroughly and rapidly dried out as some parts are permanently changed by water exposure. Water is every bit as damaging to the functionality of a phone as fire or crushing; the only real difference is that the results cause far less cosmetivc damage.

Even if obviously damaged parts are replaced, corrosion continues on other parts and they then fail as well. For that reason alone, there are no professional repairers willing to carry out such repairs as the risk of having to carry out further ongoing remedial work under their own workmanship warranty is simply too high. Some may do so on a totally unguaranteed and unofficial basis, but will ask for the repair fee up front as diagnostic testing alone costs time and therefore money. You also have to really trust them as there’s nothing to stop them taking your money on an obviously irreparable phone, sitting on it for a week and then telling you it’s dead.

If you have insurance which covers water damage, then make a claim. If not, then you’ll have to replace your phone.

What Is Water Damage?
I Hear About It A Lot But What Is It Exactly And What Types Are There?

Water damage describes a large number of possible losses caused by water intruding where it will enable attack of a material or system by destructive processes such as rotting of wood, growth, rusting of steel, de-laminating of materials such as plywood, and many, many others.

The damage may be imperceptibly slow and minor such as water spots that could eventually mar a surface, or it may be instantaneous and catastrophic such as flooding. However fast it occurs, water damage is a very major contributor to loss of property.

One’s homeowner’s insurance policy may or may not cover the costs associated with water damage and the process of water damage restoration. While a common cause of residential water damage is often the failure of a sump pump, many homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover the associated costs without an addendum which adds to the monthly premium of the policy. Often the verbiage of this addendum is similar to “Sewer and Drain Coverage.”

Those individuals who are affected by wide scale flooding may have the ability to apply for government and FEMA grants through the Individual Assistance program. On a larger level, businesses, cities, and communities can apply to the FEMA Public Assistance program for funds to assist after a large flood. For example, the city of Fond du Lac Wisconsin received $1.2 million FEMA grant after flooding in June 2008. The program allows the city to purchase the water damaged properties, demolish the structures, and turn the properties into public green space.

When You Have Water Flooding Your House Or Building, Who Do You Call First? Insurance Or Emergency Repair?
We’Re Trying To Find Out How Important An Ad In Yellow Pages Is For An Emergency Flood Company. Or, Do People Just Called Their Insurance And Use Whoever They Recommend?

Any insurance company would prefer, in the case of an emergency like a tree limb crashing through a roof, to make whatever emergency repairs are necessary immediately to prevent further damage, even if it is just covering the affected area with a tarp. If water is flooding your house, the first thing you need to do is to try to stop the flooding to prevent more flood damage, and call the insurance company as soon as that is done. Protect the property first, then call the insurance. After all, they are going to pay and do not want a delay in making emergency repairs to cause more damage.

How Can I Fix The Parts Of My Nightstand That Have Damage From Water?
I Acquired A Nightstand And Chest From A Family Member But It Has Damage From Someone Not Using A Coaster. It’S More Than A Watermark The Damage Has Made The Wood Discolored. It’S Not Solid Wood Though, It Looks Like Wood But A Part Is Chipped Off And You Can Tell It’S Not Underneath. I Love The Furniture, It’S Nice Looking And Sturdy But What Do I Do About The Areas Of Damage? Can I Wipe Some Stain On These Areas And Make It Look Better? I Was Told To Sand It Lightly All Over And Use Wood Putty In The Parts That Are Chipped Then Stain And Put A Sealant On Top. This Project Would Be More Than I Can Do.The Top Of The Chest Looks The Same Way.
